The term ‘stress’ usually means that the mind is dominating
the existence. A mass of repetitive thoughts about the past and
worries for the future give no respite. Using the voice to make sounds
other than talking can interrupt the incessant mindstuff and bring peace
- a healthy mind will create a healthy body.
After a session, a common expression used is feeling as if the mind has been washed clean.
Rachel began chanting to combat post-traumatic stress more than 10 years ago following a long career as a uniformed frontline Police Sergeant in London's Metropolitan Police. She has received training in Sanskrit Mantra from Muz Murray (Ramana Baba) and Overtone chanting from Jill Purce. Currently, as well as her sound and doula work, Rachel also sings with the New Sussex Opera Chorus, the Forest Row Choral Society and is studying Opera at a London College
